From the South Florida Sun-Sentinel Is pledge our most important issue? Letter to the editor December 28, 2005 by Jacques Bobrowsky Boca Raton
There was no doubt in my mind that one day the American Civil
Liberties Union would file a suit in reference to students reciting
the Pledge of Allegiance in our schools.
I can remember reciting the Pledge of Allegiance throughout school. I, as all my other classmates, thought of it as being a patriotic act, not a religious one, although, unlike today, we all believed in God back then. One of the biggest problems in our country today is that too many people have lost faith, but that's another story. With all the problems in society today, can't we find anything better to fight over? Does this person pledge his allegiance to another flag? Is it now against a person's choice of faith to stand up in honor of our country? Or is somebody just looking for a little attention? I think I will invoke my constitutional right of free speech, by stating that the ACLU needs to take a look at the big picture instead of being a myopic organization with little or no regard for our Founding Fathers' principles in drafting the Constitution of the United States of America.
