July 14, 2004 Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger State Capitol Building Sacramento, Ca 95814
Re: California Education Secretary Richard Riordan
Dear Governor Schwarzenegger, Please allow me to introduce the undersigned as an advocate for children’s rights. It never ceases to amaze me what goes on in our society today. What ever happened to children’s rights? Animals seem to have more laws to protect them today than children. Common sense should be called uncommon sense. When you look at children, you are actually gazing into the eyes of future parents, teachers, senator, even our next president. Shouldn’t we treat them as such? I was in total disbelief when I heard Mr. Riordan’s remark to a six year old girl; “It means stupid dirty girl,” referring to the meaning of her name. You stated to the Associated Press that his statement was “unacceptable in any context”. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, belittling a child is emotional abuse and therefore considered to be maltreatment of a child. We are asking you as Governor of the great State of California and as a child advocate to assist in Richard Riordan’s resignation. Please respond in writing within’ ten days.
Very truly yours, Jacques Bobrowsky, President and Founder, Haley’s Rights
