re: Children's Rights

Dear Jacques,

Thank you very much for writing.  I agree with you 100%.  I put a provision in the bill to address the plea bargaining.  I want a study giving me some analysis on the cases that are plea bargained down.  I want to know how many there are and why.  I know that sometimes it is a helpful tool to get a conviction especially when the evidence is weak, but I think that there may be too many times the plea is used when there is strong clear evidence that the prosecutors should not be looking for the easy route.  I have also included a study to
determine why we are letting out on probation the violent offenders when there are non violent criminals sitting in prison with no parole.

When these studies come back to the legislature I am certain they will prompt me to take action in the form of new legislation and a sharp policy change.

I appreciate your taking the time to write.  I appreciate all you do for this very worthy cause in protecting our children.

The horrible way these babies died just rips me up inside.

I know you can never get over what happened to your child, I just hope you know your dedication in helping others means so much to people like me and many others.

Thank you,
Nancy
