a nonprofit organization for children's rights

Good afternoon your honor:

According to the United States Justice Department “Most homicides of young children (ages 5 years and younger) are committed by family members through beatings or suffocation”. Parents, by law, are supposed to protect their children and keep them out of harms way, which makes these crimes more heinous. “Although victims include approximately equal number of boys and girls, offenders include a disproportionate number of women. Homicides of young children may be seriously undercounted.” According to the F.B.I., 1,789 juvenile were murdered in 1999. That number is the equivalent of 5 juveniles per day, which make the United States the leader among developed countries of juvenile homicides. The 1,789 juveniles I mention as well as Kyle, will never, ever, ever have the opportunity to experience any of the joys life has to offer. The only way to change statistics and protect our children is to hold perpetrators accountable for their actions and sentence them accoringly.

When you look at children today, you are actually gazing into the eyes of future parents teachers, senators, even our next president. Shouldn’t we treat them as such?

Thank you your honor.
